Wild Saturday in College Hoops

Andy RautinsIt was a wild Saturday of NCAA Hoops, as the number one and two ranked teams in the country went down in flames to unranked opponents. And a few bubble teams made huge statements that the march madness selection committee will find hard to ignore.

Number 1 Kansas is dumped by Oklahoma State
OKLAHOMA STATE 85 (1) Kansas 77

The Oklahoma State Cowboys stunned the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks, taking an 85-77 win at Gallagher-Iba Arena Saturday.

OSU covered as a 5.5-point home underdog while the final score played OVER the 145-point total.

James Anderson poured in 27 points for the Cowboys while Matt Pilgrim chipped in with 18 points in the big conference win.

Sherron Collins netted 22 points for the Jayhawks while freshman Xavier Henry added 17 points in the loss.

Number 2 Kentucky upset by Number 19 Tennessee
(19) TENNESSEE 74 (2) Kentucky 65

J.P. Prince scored six of his 20 points down the stretch, as 19th-ranked Tennessee upended No. 2 Kentucky, 74-65, at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Volunteers (21-7, 9-5 SEC) built a 19-point lead early in the second half, but Kentucky (27-2, 12-2) battled back to tie the game at 65-65 on consecutive dunks by DeMarcus Cousins with about two minutes remaining.

After a Prince layup, Scotty Hopson drained a three-pointer to give Tennessee a five-point edge. Prince cemented the win at the foul line.
Hopson finished with 15 points and four rebounds, while Bobby Maze and Cameron Tatum both logged nine points for the Volunteers, who have won three of four.

Texas A&M drops on Texas

The Texas A&M Aggies shocked the Texas Longhorns with a one-sided 74-58 victory at Reed Arena Saturday.

Texas A&M covered as a 2-point home favorite while the final score played UNDER the 140-point total.

Donald Sloan led the Aggies with 19 points while David Loubeau added 15 points.

Damion James scored 12 points for the Longhorns, who also got 10 points from freshman Jordan Hamilton.

The Orangemen Dominate Villanova
(4) SYRACUSE 95 (7) Villanova 77

The fourth-ranked Syracuse Orange dominated early in the game as they went on to defeat the seventh-ranked Villanova Wildcats 95-77 Saturday night.

Syracuse covered the 4.5-point spread, while the 172 points sailed OVER the posted total of 156.5.

Rick Jackson tossed in 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Syracuse, while Arinze Onuaku added 17 in the win.
Scottie Reynolds had 16 points for Villanova, and Corey Fisher collected 14 in a losing cause.

Notre Dame Makes a Leap Off of The Bubble

Notre Dame 78 (11) GEORGETOWN 64

Ben Hansbrough scored 21 points and Tim Abromaitis added 19, as Notre Dame beat its second ranked opponent this week with a 78-64 victory over No. 11 Georgetown at the Verizon Center.

Carleton Scott contributed a career-high 17 points with nine rebounds for the Fighting Irish (19-10, 8-8 Big East), who stopped a three-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 68-53 home win over 12th-ranked Pittsburgh. Notre Dame will have a chance to further enhance its NCAA Tournament resume with games next week against Connecticut and Marquette before the Big East Tournament.
