UFC 117 Results – Hughes Puts Almeida to Sleep

Hughes chokingUFC 117 – Hughes puts Almeida to Sleep

Matt Hughes continues his dominance over the Gracie clan, he destroyed Royce and Renzo Gracie and last night he put Ricardo Almeida to sleep 3 minutes into the fight.

Ricardo Almeida was Renzo Gracie’s top BJJ prospect and everyone including Sportsbook Veteran expected him to turn the tide against the UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes. Hughes wasn’t having any of it.

Hughes knocked Almeida down with a left hook and then pounced on him, he worked it into an “old-school” wrestling move and then used his brute strength to choke out the Gracie fighter.

“It’s an old-school wrestling move,” Hughes said. “I’ve been good at it. I’m happy to beat a good Brazilian with a wrestling move.”

Almeida was on a three-fight winning streak heading into UFC 117. It was his second bout at 170 pounds after fighting for years as a middleweight.

We lost this bet but it proves the old adage, err maybe we made it up, that wrestler age gracefully.
