Top Five Bounce Back NFL Players for 2010

Every year a top star has a bad year and it kills your fantasy team. It’s usually an injury but it can be a divorce or just losing their mojo for a season or possibly for good. Let’s have a look a few players that had down years last season but should bounce back in 2010.

Last year our choices for bounce back seasons were Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Willie Parker, Ernest Graham and Reggie Bush.  Brady had a good season but didn’t put up the numbers we expected, Palmer was solid but he was missing a second top flight receiver, Willie Parker was a mess, Ernest Graham was bunk and Reggie Bush won the Super Bowl. This is a mixed bag and I’m sure our choice this year will perform the same nevertheless here’s our top five players that should bounce back in 2010.

Calvin Johnson – Detroit Lions
Injuries slowed Johnson last season, he failed to reach a 1000 yards and only had 5 TDs. A ton of players in the league would love those numbers but we all expect more from Johnson. Another full season with Matt Stafford should be enough to get him over 1200 yards and 10 TDs.

Eddie Royal – Denver Broncos
Eddie Royal had a big season in 2008 but last year he was the forgotten man in the Josh McDaniel offense.  His stats were dismal, he caught 27 balls for 345 yards and no TDs but with Brandon Marshall in Miami, the Broncos need Royal to step up and catch some balls.  Based on his 2008 numbers he worth taking late in the draft.

Dwayne Bowe – Kansas City Chiefs
Bowe had a forgettable season last year, he missed the first four games because of a suspension and he missed weeks 11-14 with an injury.  He averaged over 1000 yards and six TDs in his first two seasons, he’s ready to earn his spot as the number one receiver in KC.

Brandon Jacobs – New York Giants
Brandon Jacobs is sitting on the waiver wire of my Yahoo Public fantasy league right now. I have a play in for him and I’ll find out in a day if he’s mine. He had knee problems last season and it limited him to just 885 yards and 5 TDs. There is a lot of talk about Ahmad Bradshaw taking carries from Jacobs this year but Bradshaw won’t take goal line carries from him and that is where Jacobs fantasy points will come in 2010.

Jay Cutler – Chicago Bears
This is a bit of a shot in the dark because Cutler has never had a huge season. Last year he had more INTs than TDs playing behind the porous Bears offensive line. This year the Bears have 3 former NFL head coaches helping out Lovie Smith and on the offense is Mike Martz. Martz has a rep for being crazy but his system makes quarterbacks fantasy stars. I like the Bears to win a wildcard this year and Cutler will have a good statistical season.
