Super Bowl XLV Prediction

super-bowl-2011Today’s the day, Super Bowl XLV. Both teams went through a ton to be here.

First, the Steelers had to play their first four games without Ben Roethlisberger because of his suspension for not following the no means no rule but they performed like a Super Bowl contender all season. They finished with a 12-4 record and a first round bye, beating the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets to make it to their third Super Bowl in the Big Ben era.

The Green Bay Packers were favorites to come out of the NFC at the beginning of the season but after losing first-string running back Ryan Grant to a season ending injury, and then losing 14 other players for the season, their title hopes looked grim. Still they won their final two regular season games over the New York Giants and the Chicago Bears to earn a 10-6 record and a sixth seed in the Playoffs. When the playoffs began, the Packers beat the Eagles, destroyed the Falcons and dumped the Chicago Bears once again to earn their spot in the big game.

I spoke with a few insiders at a few books and apparently 95% of the sharp money is backing the Steelers and the NFL betting public is behind the Packers. The biggest and best bettor in the world of online gambling Billy Walters is rumored to have seven figures down on the Green Bay Packers.

Personally, I’ve been riding the Packers all season, so my 12/1 futures bet on Green Bay is swaying my decision a little bit here but the fact that I’m on the same side as Billy Walters makes me feel better about my decision to take the Packers at -3 Points.
