Sunday Wrap and Review Week 3

TO no Cry

Cleveland 3 – Baltimore 34 - Joe Flacco has the Ravens passing game clicking, not bad for a guy who didn’t have any quality receivers before the start of training camp. The Ravens easily covered the 13-point spread.

Washington 14 – Detroit 19 – LIONS WIN! LIONS WIN! LIONS WIN! For the first time since 2007, the Detroit Lions are winners. Matt Stafford looked worthy of his number 1 draft status. On the other side of the ball, Washington couldn’t get the ball moving. Clinton Portis was a game time decision and based on his play he probably should have stayed on the bench. Lions backers won against the spread and on the moneyline.

Jacksonville 31 – Houston 24 – The Texans offense couldn’t overcome their poor run defense as Maurice Jones-Drew scored three TDs.  Jaguar backers won against the spread and on the moneyline.

San Francisco 24 – Minnesota 27 – #&$%& Favre (sorry I had a sizable wager on the 49ers moneyline) Favre became the first Viking quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards since Duante Culpepper. Rookie of the Year Candidate Percy Harvin scored on a 101-yard kick return and the 49ers are heartbroken.  The Vikings won the game but failed to cover the spread.

Atlanta 10 – New England 26 – The Pats kept pace with the Jets after defeating the Falcons on the strength of Fred Taylor’s 105 rushing yards and Stephen Gostkoski’s leg. Gostkoski connected on all four of his field goal attempts. It didn’t help my fantasy team but Patriot fans can breathe a sigh of relief.  New England easily covered the 3-point spread.

Kansas City 14 – Philadelphia 34 – Michael Vick is back, Vick rushed for 7 yards and was 0-2 on his pass attempts. The Eagles didn’t need him, as Kevin Kolb became the first QB to throw for over 300 yards in his first two games as a starter. The Eagles covered the 9-point spread.

Green Bay 36 – St. Louis 17 – Another game another loss for the Rams, the Packers defense recovered 3 turnovers and forced Marc Bulger out of the game. The Rams can take solace in 117 rushing yards and 46 receiving yards by Steven Jackson. The Packers covered the spread.

NY Giants 24 – Tampa Bay 0 – The march to 0-16 continues for the Bucs. The Giants defense had an easy day in earning their first road shutout since 1993. The Giants covered the spread.

Tennessee 17- NY Jets 24 – Mark Sanchez threw for two TDs and plowed his way through the defense for another one.  Sanchez is making his case to replace Brett Favre, as the player NFL announcers are most likely to leave their wives for.  The Jets covered the 3-point spread.

New Orleans 27 – Buffalo 7 – Drew Brees wasn’t Superman but the Saints defense played the role of the hero as they held Buffalo to only 7 points.  The Saints D shut down Terrell Owens completely; he failed to make a catch on the day, breaking a stretch of 185 games with at least one reception.  His streak of bitching and crying when he doesn’t get the ball remains intact. The Saints covered the point spread.

Chicago 25 – Seattle 19 – Jay Cutler found Devin Hester with less than 2 minutes left to give the Bears a come from behind victory.  Bears bettors won against the spread and their moneyline wagers.

Pittsburgh 20 – Cincinnati 23 – These aren’t you daddy’s Bengals, Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco calmly marched down the field and scored a game winning touchdown with only seconds to go in the game.  If it weren’t for the final minute of the Denver game, the Bengals would be 3-0. If you bet on the Bengals, you would have cashed in on the moneyline and the point spread.

Denver 23 – Oakland 3 – many experts predicted bad things for the Broncos going into this season but Denver’s defense has developed dominance far quicker than anyone could have imagined. The Raiders only averaged 1.8 yards per passing play for a total of 61 passing yards. Denver easily covered the point spread and his you had a bet on the Raiders, shame on you.

Miami 13 – San Diego 23 – Philip Rivers tossed for over 300 yards and rushed for a TD as the Chargers sent the 2008 AFC East champions to a 0-3 start.  Chad Pennington hurt his shoulder, which will limit his range even more next week.  It wasn’t pretty but the Chargers covered the spread.

Indianapolis 31 – Arizona 10 – Never ever bet against Peyton Manning in a prime time game. The Colts were the odds makers’ underdogs but after giving up an early field goal Peyton tossed three TDs in the second quarter and the Cards never threatened again. The defense that was on the field for 3/4 of the game last week, performed admirably
