Nate Robinson                  8/5
Shannon Brown                 7/5

It’s time for the NBA’s Slam Dunk contest and honestly, the lineup is less than inspiring. We get to see Nate Robinson for the millionth time, Gerald Wallace…yawn, the Lakers Shannon Brown, Eric Gordon or DeMar DeRozan.  BetUS.com has provided the odds.

DeRozan and Gordon will compete for Saturday’s final spot during the halftime of the Rookies versus Sophomores game. It’s a one and done, the winner goes on to big event Saturday night.

The problem with this event is there isn’t much a high-flyer can do to “WOW” us anymore. I grew up watching Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan throw down, these kids can’t compete with the legends.  The NBA dunk contest is in the same sort of funk we saw during the 90’s when we saw guys like Harold Miner and Cedric Cebballos win the compition. It wasn’t until a young Vince Carter announced his arrival to the NBA with his incredible 2000 showing, watching it, you knew you were seeing something special.

Do the contestants have a little VC in them this year? I don’t think so but if I am going to put my money on anyone, I’ll back the newest Toronto Raptor DeMar DeRozan, he’s young, confident and he gets up.
