PacMan vs Clottey – March 13
March 14th Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) defends his WBO title against Ghana’s Joshua Clottey (35-3, 20 KOs) at the Cowboys massive football stadium in Arlington Texas.
This isn’t the fight that boxing fans are salivating for but it’s a nice start. Everyone wants to see the number one pound for pound fighter, Floyd Mayweather and the number two pound for pound fighter get it on. They almost got it done but both fighters took high quality fights instead of fighting each other, with Pacquaio taking on Clottey and Floyd Mayweather taking on the always-fantastic Sugar Shane Mosley.
The boxing cynic in me thinks that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight wasn’t going to happen May 5 regardless of what the media reports said, the Cynic in me thinks that the negotiations were a big rouse to hype their current fights and to make the eventual fight later in the year even bigger. The pure boxing fan in me says, damn that worked.
Clottey is no tomato can, he’s is a fantastic fighter with some excellent wins under his belt, this won’t be a night off for Manny Pacquiao. Clottey has never been knocked out, his three losses were (1)a DQ loss from Carlos Baldomir, (2)Unanimous Decision loss to Antonio Margarito and a (3)Split Decision loss to Miguel Cotto.
We’ll talk about the Mayweather Mosley fight closer to May.
Here are the latest Boxing Odds from Bodog.com
Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao -675
Joshua ” Grand Master ” Clottey +475
PacMan is a huge favorite, usually in situations like this the sportsbook will take a lot of bets on the underdog, just because the payout is so high. However, everything I’m hearing from the Bookies is that even with the huge lay amount, being are still betting Pacquiao. I don’t see him losing this fight, not with the huge payday coming later against Mayweather. I’m not sure he’ll knock him out, it will likely be the corner or the ref calling it quits before the fighter.
