NFL Teams Staying Under the Win Total
NFL Teams Staying Under the Win Total
Every year in the NFL there is a team we all expect to be great and march their way to the Super Bowl and every year one or two of those teams disappoints us. Last season the Carolina Panthers went from 12-4 to finish 8-8 and only because they closed out with three straight wins.
Who will be this year’s team to tank it? Let’s have a look at three teams I think will fall under the predicted seasonal win total.
Chargers – Over 10½ Wins -140
The San Diego Chargers have phenomenal talent on their team but with several holdouts and Shawne Merriman signing a contract, which undervalues him, Norv Turner may have a hard time keeping his team focused. They’ll be limiting to 9 or 10 wins but it will be because of the outside issues rather than the talent in the locker room. The AFC West will be better than expected, with the Chiefs and yes even the Raiders having solid but not spectacular seasons.
Pittsburgh Steelers – Over 8½ Wins -125
It looks like Ben Roethlisberger will only serve four of his six game suspension but it won’t be enough. It’s not a stretch to assume the Steelers will be 1-3 after they open the season against the Falcons, Titans, Bucs and Ravens. The Bucs is the only gimme game in the four. The Steelers secondary was a sieve last year with their starting corners finishing in the bottom five in effectiveness. The Steelers will be hard pressed to escape third place in the AFC North after the Ravens finish first and the Bengals take second.
New York Jets – Over 9½ Wins -125
This is my favorite bet of the teams to fail this season. The Jets have too many big personalities for Coach Rex Ryan to deal with. They are cool right now but if they can’t get Darrelle Revis signed and in camp, we’ll see a lot of games when the Jets are killed through the air as we saw in the first week of the preseason. The spotlight on the Jets will burn bright and I have doubts about their ability to keep it together all season.
