NFL Signings First Day Winners and Losers
Winners
The Chicago Bears and Julius Peppers – The Bears signed the best player available adding DE Julius Peppers to the squad with a six-year, $92 million contract with an astonishing $42 million in guaranteed money (he’ll make $20 million in 2010 alone).
The Bears also added Chester Taylor to back up Matt Forte, Taylors deal was for 4 years and 12.5 million dollars.
New England Patriots – They didn’t sign anyone new but they kept
Vince Wilfork, Stephen Neal and Tully Banta-Cain. With so much player movement, to be able to keep your own best free agents we’ll call it a win.
The Miami Dolphins – They scooped Karlos Dansby from the Cardinals, making Dansby the highest paid linebacker in the league.
Baltimore Ravens – they traded for Anquan Boldin and signed him to a 4 year contract extension. Big big win.
Losers
Detroit Lions – Overpaid for Nate Burleson by a lot, they gave the average at best receiver five years and 25 million dollars with 11 million guaranteed.
Arizona Cardinals – They lost Dansby, Boldin and safety Antrel Rolle, Rolle was signed by the Giants making him the richest Safety in the NFL.
Ben Roethlisberger – Poor Big Ben, he has been accused of sexual assault for a second time, it makes me think where there is smoke their fire. Roethlisberger has spoken with Police but no charges have been laid. He is still dealing with his Reno Girl, two sexual assault trials running concurrently can’t be good for sponsorships, at least Tigers girls wanted to be Tigers girls.
