The NBA Preseason is underway so what better time to look at the upcoming season. Today we’ll cover the Rookie of the Year Award. Be sure you get your bets in at BetUS.com before the season starts because after game one the odds will be gone.

We have the Rookie of the Year Award favorites, contenders and a long shot with a shot.

The Favorite

Blake Griffin – Without a doubt this is Blake Griffin’s award to lose. Griffin comes into the league with an NBA body and an NBA Game. He is the most polished player in the 2009 draft. It’s a shame he had to join the team where good rookies often languish in mediocrity until they can escape at the quickest opportunity.  Blake Griffin has the size and power to muscle his way through most NBA power forwards. Look for Griffin to put up big rebound numbers from game one, his scoring will come but the lack of options with LA’s other franchise will ensure he gets lots of touches.

The Contenders

James Harden – Harden is the newest addition to the OKC Thunder.  Harden is expected to come off the bench behind Thabo Sefolosha but his natural scoring touch and excellent perimeter shooting will earn him solid minutes in a reserve role early in the season. Don’t be surprised is Harden is starting before December.  If the Clippers suck the life out of Griffin, Harden could steal the ROY award.

Jonny Flynn – Flynn will be a starter from game one for the Timberwolves, giving him lots of opportunity to score. For Flynn to have a chance at the ROY Award, he’ll need to limit his turnovers and effectively feed the ball inside to Kevin Love and Al Jefferson, if he can do this, his assist numbers will be solid for a rookie.

Long Shot with a Shot

I really wanted to put Stephen Curry in this slot but his odds are not that long; I was a huge fan of his dad Dell Curry’s sweet shooting. Stephen Curry can flat out score but the Warriors have a ton of guards and we are already hearing grumbling from current starting Warriors starting point guard Monta Ellis. Ellis backed off his criticism by saying “He’s (curry) is better than I thought he was.” I think Ellis feels threatened by Curry and doesn’t want to lose any PT to the Rookie, we’ll see how this one plays out.  Ok I’m gonna stick with Stephen Curry as my long shot with a shot regardless of his 5/1 odds, the media loves him and he can fill the stat card.
