How to Middle a Game

There is a segment of sports bettors that don’t care which team they bet on, they don’t care which teams win or lose but they are making huge profits betting on sports. I didn’t believe until I had it explained to me many years ago. This segment scours the lines looking for opportunities to middle the sportsbooks. Let me explain how this works.

A middle opportunity occurs due to aggressive line movement, some games will open at a say 6 points but due to heavy action that line could go as high as 8 or 9 if there is a lot of public betting or an injury to one of the star players. So in order to middle the game, you want to take the favorite at its lowest point and take the underdog when the line is at its highest.

If the Packers are favored against the Bears and the line opens at 6 points, you would take the Packers at -6 for $1100 to win $1000 and when the line moves to 7 and then 8 you place a wager of same amount on the Bears at +8. Therefore, this leaves you with five possible outcomes.

Packers win by 8 points or more you lose the bet on the Beats but win your Packer bet, so you lose $100

Packers lose or win by less than 6 points, you lose the Packers bet but win the Bears bet causing you to lose $100.

If the Packers win by 6 points, you push the Packers bet and win the Bears bet, so you’ll win $1000

If the Bears lose by 8 points, you will push the Bears bet and win the Packers bet, so you’ll win $1000

Here’s the best part,

If the Packers win the game by 7 points, you will win both wagers giving you a profit of $2000

Looking over the options, the most money you are risking is the $100 juice but you stand to win $1000 or $2000. If you are using a Low Juice sportsbook, you risk is even less.

Sportsbook operators are pretty clever guys so most if not all books won’t let you bet on both sides of any game. So if you want to try your hand at middling a game you will need to have money in several different sportsbooks but if you are already following my advice about line shopping you should have at least five sportsbook accounts loaded with money.

One last piece of advice I will give about middling games is focus on key numbers; in football, those numbers are 3, 7 and 10. In basketball, the key numbers are 2 and 7.

You will lose more often than you win but those games you successfully middle will more than make up for the juice you lose on the games.
