Have You Seen Sid’s Stick?

Have you seen my Stick?
During the Gold Medal game excitement, someone made off with a glove and the stick that Sidney Crosby wore while he scored the overtime winner for Canada. Sidney’s main sponsor Reebok has stepped into help team and hall of fame official find the missing hockey gear. The company is offering $10,000 and no questions asked for the return of the Olympic gear.
This is just a heads up to Reebok, if you are interested in finding the gear; you’re going to need to raise your asking price, especially if Todd McFarlane is in the market for some new memorabilia. If you remember, Todd McFarlane bought Mark McGwire’s 70th homerun ball for $3 Million and then purchased Barry Bond’s 73rd homerun ball for $450,000.
I know it doesn’t involve baseball or a steroid enraged monster swinging for the fences but this is the sort of thing McFarlane would be all over.
There is speculation that it was someone who snuck onto the ice during the celebration but you don’t want to overlook a fellow player. In 2003 when the Boston Red Sox ended their 86 year World Series drought it was Doug Mientkiewicz who caught the final out and quietly snuck the game winning ball home with him.
The Red Sox and Doug Mientkiewicz were tied up in litigation for several Years before Mientkiewicz agreed to donate the ball to the Hall of fame.
It will be interesting to see when or if Crosby’s gold medal gear resurfaces but something tells me $10,000 won’t be enough, maybe Gambling entrepreneur and philanthropist Calvin Ayre can open up his cheque book and offer a few bucks for the Stick.
