Fantasy Football Hot or Not – Week 1

Fantasy Football Hot or Not will be a weekly feature here at Sportsbook Veteran. Our fantasy football experts will give you their HOT fantasy football stars for the week and their NOT fantasy players who you will want to leave on the bench. We hope you enjoy it.
There are certain players who barring injury will be in your lineup every week, Drew Brees, Adrian Peterson and Larry Fitzgerald are good examples. With our Fantasy Football Hot or Not feature we want to highlight those players who might be on your bench and should be in the game.
Hot
- Fred Jackson – With Marshawn Lynch out for the first three games due to a suspension Fred Jackson takes over as the lead running back for the Buffalo Bills. The Bills take on the Patriots and the Pats D will be suspect against the run all season long especially after trading run stuffer Richard Seymour.
- Julius Jones – The Seahawks and most notably Matt Hasselbeck are healthy. An improved passing game will keep the defense honest allowing Jones to find some holes through the porous St. Louis Rams defense.
- Mike Bell – Don’t sleep on Mike Bell, with Reggie Bush an perpetual question mark and Pierre Thomas either limited or ruled out week 1, Bell will have the lion’s share of the carries.
- Cedric Benson – He’s not my favorite player on the list but if there is a week Benson will perform it’s week one versus the Denver Broncos. I don’t see him being on the hot list at any other time this season so if you have Benson on your team now is the time to take advantage.
- Lawrence Tynes – I know I know, he’s an idiot kicker but when you compare him to the rest of the idiot kickers he’ll put up some points. The Giants will rely on the run all season long which could result in lots of field goal opportunities for Mr. Tynes.
Not
- David Garrard – Garrard is not flashy but given the tools he gets it done but unfortunitly other than Maurice Jones-Drew and an over the hill Torry Holt, he doesn’t have the tools. It will be a long day for the Jags as they face a very tough Carolina Panthers team.
- Brett Favre – The Vikings should get an easy win week 1 but it won’t come from the passing game. Eric Mangini was Favre’s coach last season and I don’t think this old dog has learned any new tricks. Look for Favre to throw multiple interceptions as he shakes off that retirement rust.
- Chris Johnson – Johnson will be in your lineup almost every week but considering he splits his carries with LenDale White will leave him limited opportunities versus the Steelers and their stifling defense. This will likely be Johnsons worst game of the year statistically.
- Larry Johnson – Johnson is happy once again but he could change his mind after opening the season versus the Baltimore Ravens. Matt Cassel is doubtful for week 1 limiting the Chiefs already limited offense. The Raven will stack the box leaving Johnson no room to run.
- Santana Moss – Moss tailed off to say the least after a huge first half last season, I don’t see that changing, well except for the for the huge first half part.
Good Luck with your games this week, if you have a fantasy question send me an email bill@sportsbookveteran.com and we’ll feature the best in future columns.
