The Gold Medal Game between Canada and the USA was the highest rated hockey game since 1980 when the USA defeated Finland for the gold Medal, the miracle on ice game against the Russians was the semi finals game.

The Canada/USA Olympic Men’s Hockey Gold Medal game drew a 17.6 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, up 46% from the ’02 Gold Medal game, which featured the same two teams.

The numbers watching the game were huge, to put thing in perspective, it outdrew every single World Series game since 2004. It outdrew every single NBA Finals game since Michael Jordan last played with the Bulls and every single NCAA final four game since ’98.

It still trails the NFL but it topped every college football game except for the National Championship game.
