Types of Sports Bets
There are many different types of sports bets that you can make. These different types of bets include a straight or single bet, point spread, buy points, the moneyline, total, over/under, a parlay, and more.
The straight bet is also known as a simple bet. This is because it is the easiest bet to make and the most common bet. When you use this bet the only thing that you need to do is pick the winner at the given odds. This is straight forward for games, horses, and other events.
The point spread allows you to bet on the winner and the loser but you must choose the point difference between the two. When you select the winner you will put a + sign next to them and the underdog will have a – sign. The favorite in the bet must win by more than the point spread that you select for the bet. A tie result can be eliminated by a half point spread.
The moneyline bets establish the odds for teams but they are proportional to a point spread but using a + for the underdog and a – for the favorite.
The parlay bet is also known as the accumulator because it is a multiple bet. This is considered to be a let it ride bet. When you place a bet like this you will make many selections or two or more games. When you place a bet like this on many games you must win on all of the bets or events to win. If there is a tie or a cancellation then your parlay is reduced by a selection. If you are betting on a double parlay and one is cancelled then your bet turns into a straight bet because you now are only betting on one event.
An over/under bet is another very popular bet. This type of bet combines the number of points of two teams that are playing in a game. These will be calculated over or under the total of points that are set by the oddsmaker. When you place an over/under bet you want to pay attention to what the oddsmakers set the points to be so you can make your estimation.
There are many different types of bets that you can make when you are practicing sports betting. You should know how to place the bets and how they work. You don’t want to place a parlay bet on many races and find that 4 out of 5 you won and think you really won when you didn’t win anything. Knowing the bets will help you determine which bets you want to make and if certain bets are a good idea or not.
